Adventure runs deep in Oman. Ride camels and camp beneath the stars in Sharqiya Sands, trek remote wadis and mountain paths, or join a dhow cruise along the Musandam fjords, watching dolphins cut through the still waters. Frequently asked questions

The most comfortable time to travel is between October and April, when daytime temperatures range from 24–30 °C, skies are clear, and evenings are pleasantly cool. This season is ideal for exploring the desert, wadis, and mountains. The summer months, from May to September, are extremely hot in much of the country, though the southern Dhofar region around Salalah enjoys a cooler monsoon season known as the Khareef, which transforms the landscape into a green oasis.

Most nationalities require an eVisa, which can be applied for online before arrival. Short-stay visas are typically valid for 10 or 30 days. Passports must have at least six months’ validity, and proof of onward travel may be required. Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals do not need a visa.

Oman combines dramatic landscapes with deep cultural roots, offering a balance of adventure and authenticity. In the capital, Muscat, highlights include the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the lively Muttrah Souk, and the Royal Opera House. Beyond the city, the Hajar Mountains invite travellers to discover ancient villages, terraced orchards, and spectacular viewpoints such as Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams, often called the ‘Grand Canyon of Arabia’.

For a taste of traditional heritage, the historic town of Nizwa is home to one of the region’s most atmospheric souks and a centuries-old fort. Desert adventures in the Wahiba Sands provide camel rides, starlit camping, and thrilling 4×4 dune drives, while the turquoise waters of Wadi Shab and Wadi Bani Khalid are perfect for hiking and swimming.

The coastline is equally captivating: relax on pristine beaches, spot nesting turtles at Ras Al Jinz, or take to the water on a dhow cruise through the fjord-like bays of Musandam. In the south, the Dhofar region around Salalah transforms during the Khareef monsoon into a lush green landscape of waterfalls and misty hills, offering a striking contrast to the desert north.

The official currency is the Omani Rial (OMR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, resorts, and restaurants, though it’s useful to carry cash for markets, taxis, and small shops. ATMs are readily available in cities and larger towns.
