Ceylon Tea Trails, Hatton, Sri Lanka
Overview
High in Sri Lanka’s emerald tea country, Ceylon Tea Trails is a collection of five restored colonial bungalows set among rolling plantations first established by British planters in the early 20th century. Each residence – Summerville, Castlereagh, Tientsin, Norwood and Dunkeld – offers its own unique personality, from lakefront verandas to rose-lined gardens and chimneys warmed by crackling fires.
Inside, the ambience is one of refined heritage: timber floors, antique furnishings, four-poster beds and curated planter memorabilia. Butler-style service ensures every detail is attended to, from breakfast on the terrace to evening canapés served by the fire. Lawns sweep down to panoramic views of Castlereagh Lake and the tea-covered hills beyond, creating a timeless sense of calm and exclusivity.
Food here celebrates fresh local ingredients and the rhythm of plantation life, with gourmet meals paired with Sri Lankan tea and private picnics arranged in scenic corners of the estate. Walking trails connect the bungalows through fragrant gardens and terraced fields, and a Tea Experience with resident experts reveals the craft behind one of Sri Lanka’s greatest exports. At dusk, planters’ cocktails and board games echo the elegant nostalgia of a bygone era.
