Giraffe Manor, Kenya
Overview
Built in 1932 as a Scottish-style hunting lodge, this historic manor sits within 120 acres of forest outside Nairobi and doubles as a working giraffe sanctuary. Most famous for its resident Rothschild giraffes that freely roam and poke their heads through breakfast windows, it has become an iconic conservation-focused boutique property.
Owned by the same family behind the Giraffe Centre and managed by The Safari Collection, the manor operates a breeding and release programme that has successfully returned dozens of giraffes to the wild. The house retains its vintage charm with six elegant bedrooms, candlelit dinners, colonial décor, and sweeping views of the Ngong Hills and distant Kilimanjaro.
Days here are uniquely shaped – morning tea may involve giraffes pressing their lips to your mug. Beyond wildlife, guests take walks through indigenous forest, dine in intimate lounges, and feel truly ‘at home’ in a quirky, conservation-minded setting with no televisions or modern distractions.
