Lewa Wilderness Lodge, Kenya
Overview
Located on a dramatic hillside overlooking the Eastern Marania Valley in the wildlife-rich Lewa Conservancy, this small nine-room lodge was established by the Craig family over 30 years ago. The setting combines a sense of a family home with easy access to rhino, elephant, Grevy’s zebra and rare species protected in this UNESCO-listed conservancy.
The nine cottages – including hillside units and garden rooms – are thatched and homely, furnished simply but comfortably with en-suite bathrooms and private verandas. Shared spaces feel relaxed and communal: help-yourself drinks cabinets, a library, and living spaces open to stunning valley views.
Guests participate in Lewa’s leading conservation efforts – from rhino tracking and wildlife monitoring to community outreach in local schools. Activities include game drives, horse-riding safaris, bush breakfasts, night drives, and visits to One Tree, a celebrated safari picnic site. Staff offer warm, personal service in a relaxed environment that sees many repeat visitors.
