Tailor-Made Italy Holidays

Italy rewards every kind of traveller – whether you’re drawn by world-renowned cuisine, vineyard-dotted landscapes, classical art cities, or shimmering coastlines. Our luxury Italy holidays are completely bespoke, crafted by experts who know the country inside out, from the sunlit hills of Tuscany to the alpine passes of the Dolomites.

You might start with a tailor-made Italy tour through Florence, Rome and Venice – each city offering its own blend of historic treasures, fine dining, and guided cultural immersion. For those in search of a more relaxed pace, we arrange private villa rentals in Tuscany and Umbria, with poolside views, in-villa chefs, and access to local wine estates.

Italy is equally suited to the adventurous: set off on a self-drive holiday through Puglia or Piedmont, hike scenic trails along the Amalfi Coast, or plan a winter escape to the Italian Alps and Dolomites for ski holidays with spa hotels and gourmet après-ski. Families are well catered for too, with Italy family holidays that balance culture and relaxation – from Lake Como escapes to cooking classes in Chianti.

Frequently asked questions

Italy is a rewarding destination year-round, but your experience depends on when you travel. The most comfortable seasons are spring (April-June) and autumn (September-October), when temperatures are pleasant, landscapes are at their most colourful, and crowds are thinner than in midsummer. These months are perfect for exploring cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice, or enjoying wine tours in Tuscany.

Summer (July-August) brings long, sunny days, buzzing piazzas, and lively festivals, but also peak crowds and high temperatures – best if you’re planning a coastal escape on the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, or Sardinia. In winter (November-March), you’ll find far fewer visitors in cities, Christmas markets, and world-class skiing in the Dolomites and Italian Alps. Italy truly has something to offer in every season, whether you’re seeking cultural immersion, outdoor adventure, or laid-back seaside holidays.

Driving within major Italian cities is not recommended. Historic centres like Rome, Florence, and Milan operate ZTL (Zona Traffico Limitato) restrictions, where only residents and authorised vehicles can enter. These zones are camera-monitored, and entering without permission results in automatic fines. Streets can also be narrow, crowded, and challenging for visitors unfamiliar with Italian traffic.

Instead, cities are best explored on foot, by metro, tram, or taxi. Reserve your car hire for countryside regions, such as Tuscany, Umbria, or Puglia, where scenic drives through vineyards and olive groves are part of the experience. If you want flexibility without the stress of navigating, private transfers with local drivers are a seamless option arranged by our team.

Yes – advance booking is essential for many of Italy’s most famous attractions. The Colosseum and Roman Forum in Rome, the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, Florence’s Uffizi Gallery and Accademia, and Venice’s Doge’s Palace often sell out weeks in advance, especially during spring and summer. Many now operate timed entry slots, and skipping the queues saves precious hours of your holiday.

Beyond the headline sights, we recommend reserving special experiences too – such as private after-hours tours of the Vatican, wine tastings in Chianti, or a guided visit to Pompeii. Pre-booking ensures a smooth experience, avoids disappointment, and allows us to tailor the flow of your itinerary.

Dining in Italy comes with a few customs to know. Most restaurants add a coperto (cover charge) per person, which covers bread and table settings. Some also add a servizio (service charge), particularly in tourist areas. Neither is a tip. Tipping isn’t obligatory, but it is appreciated. Rounding up the bill or leaving around 5-10% for excellent service is considered polite.

It’s also worth knowing that mealtimes are a cultural experience in Italy. Lunch is often served between 12:30 and 2:30pm, while dinner can start later than in the UK, with many locals dining after 8pm. Taking your time to enjoy multiple courses – antipasti, primi, secondi, and dolci— – s part of the pleasure.

Italy is exceptionally well-connected, with multiple ways to travel between its diverse regions. High-speed trains link major cities like Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan in just a few hours, making rail the most efficient and comfortable choice for city-to-city travel. For coastal and island destinations, ferries and hydrofoils connect Naples with Capri, Ischia, and the Amalfi Coast, and longer routes link Sicily and Sardinia to the mainland.

For countryside escapes, such as Tuscany, Piedmont, or Puglia, a hire car or private driver is the best way to explore villages, wineries, and scenic routes at your own pace. On the luxury end, private yacht charters along the Amalfi Coast or Aeolian Islands, or even scenic helicopter transfers, can add exclusivity and ease to your journey. Within cities, walking is often the most enjoyable way to discover hidden streets, piazzas, and neighbourhoods.
